Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged the Mahama-led NDC government to provide a clear and consistent communication regarding its proposed 24-hour economy policy.
Addressing recent public statements by the President, the legislator aligned with the opposition NPP, highlighted what he deems as contradictions in the widely propagated policy.
“What I find a little worrying is that in one breath, the President says there’s a plan and implementation is about to start. In another breadth, he says there’s a draft document which will come out on the 1st of July. The government needs to tidy up its act and be clear. So, that when the policy is released, there is less confusion and critique. That way, we can all follow the implementation process and help ensure its success,” he stated.
Speaking on JoyNews AM Show on May 29, 2025, he stressed that releasing a draft document to the public implies the policy framework is still under development, which contradicts the claim of readiness for implementation.
“If you say there’s a plan and implementation is about to start, then maybe July 1st marks the beginning of that implementation. But if what you are putting out is a draft, you may find yourself caught in inconsistencies,” he said.
While he acknowledged the government’s initiative, Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that his observations are not partisan criticisms but constructive input based on experience.
“I’m not here just to critique because I’m in opposition. I’m here to share lessons from what we’ve learned. The key is to be clear on what you’re putting out, so implementation can follow smoothly,” he indicated.
He urged the government to finalise and communicate its plans effectively to avoid public confusion and to facilitate successful execution of the policy.
