The Goaso Traditional Council has announced that every household within the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region will be required to pay GH₵50 as part of preparations for the funeral rites of the late Goasomanhene, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area, passed away in December 2024. Reports indicate that he had been unwell for some time prior to his death.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Traditional Council declared that the levy is mandatory and called on all households to comply.

“We are about to bid farewell to our chief, who generously provided us a place on this land to lay our heads. Will you remain unconcerned and contribute nothing as we prepare for his funeral?” the Council stated.

“The Goaso Traditional Council has resolved that each household must contribute fifty cedis. We humbly ask that there be no complaints about this contribution.

“If you refuse to pay and, in the future, lose a family member, will you still come to the Traditional Council seeking a burial place?

“We are hopeful that everyone will contribute to ensure we give our chief a befitting burial. We respectfully urge every household to make this payment—it is mandatory.

“Please note, if you do not pay, the time will come when the Traditional Council will take action,” one of the leaders of the Council who addressed the media said.

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah was widely known for his outspoken nature. He openly criticized the Electoral Commission of Ghana, various state agencies, and the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He made headlines for publicly weeping over the lack of development in his community and for calling out pastors and fellow chiefs whom he accused of misrepresenting the true state of the nation.

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah was enstooled as the Paramount Chief of Goaso in 2008.
