The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals (COUAHP) has threatened a nationwide demonstration if their concerns are neglected and not given the due employment they deserve.
According to the health professionals, their financial, emotional and psychological needs continue to worsen as they have remained at home without employment since 2019 after graduating from various accredited training institutions and following through with all due processes.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, May 26, Hussein Abdul Baaki, PRO for the Coalition, highlighted that they will not hesitate to hit the streets to press home their demands and their right to employment in subsequent days if they are not given clearance and posting as required.
According to him, several petitions to relevant stakeholders have yielded no results, a further indication of neglect.
They decry that since the current government has highlighted provisions of the needs of the youth as a priority, they look forward to an intervention since they are part of the youthful population.
“Continued neglect of our plight is a threat to public health, social stability and the future of health professions in Ghana. If no decisive action is taken to address these issues, we will embark on a massive nationwide demonstration to demand our right to employment, fairness and dignity,” he said.
The PRO also called for a retraction of a comment by MP for Garu in the Upper East Region, Thomas Anabah, who they said has downplayed the legitimate concerns of unemployed Allied Health Professionals, many of whom have been waiting for posting since 2019.
“We want to address a comment made by a member of parliament. We are deeply disappointed in the recent comment made by Honourable, a medical doctor who chose to downplay the concerns of Allied Health Professionals, many of whom have been waiting for posting as far back as 2019. We condemn his comment and call on him to retract his comment and issue a public apology,”he added
