Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed his excitement after earning a call-up to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.
The 32-year-old has been named in Ghana’s squad for the four-nation friendly tournament, following his impressive displays in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he kept clean sheets against Chad and Madagascar.
His performances have earned him the role of first-choice goalkeeper, and he is expected to start Ghana’s opening match against Nigeria on May 28, 2025.
Speaking to Max TV before departing for London, Asare shared his gratitude and determination to make Ghanaians proud.
“I’m grateful to God, our supporters, and all Ghanaians for their support,” he said. “It’s not easy for a local player to earn a place in the Black Stars, and every match is tough.
So when we receive a call-up, we’re always ready to step up.”He emphasized the importance of preparation and focus ahead of the tournament. L
“We have to psyche ourselves and prepare because anything can happen at any time. Now that we’ve been given this opportunity, we must represent Ghana well and make the nation proud.
”Asare, along with other locally based players included in the squad, departed Ghana in the early hours of Saturday morning to join the team in London for the international competition.
