Rainstorm Destroys Northern Regional Library

Northern Regional Library destroyed by rainstorm

A rainstorm has caused significant damage to the Northern Regional Library in Tamale, in the Northern Region.

The rainstorm destroyed the library’s roof, as well as learning materials and other property.

The Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Aaron Kuwornu, who confirmed the incident, expressed concern about the library’s ability to continue its operations if the facility is not fixed on time due to the approaching raining season.

According to him, salvaged learning materials have been moved to a different room for safekeeping.

Mr. Kuwornu, however, warned that the library may have to close down if the situation is not addressed quickly.

“We want to appeal for urgent assistance and support else we will be forced to shut down the library, and I am not ready to do that,” he stressed.

He lamented about the negative impact a closure would have on students, particularly teenagers.

“A library is the heartbeat of every society. Without it, our students are likely to engage in negative activities to occupy their time instead of visiting the library to learn,” he pointed out.

The Northern Regional Library is the only public library serving the Tamale Metro and its surrounding areas in the Northern Region.
