Former Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine Afeku, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and stop the internal blame games following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews and monitored by GhanaWeb on Friday, May 23, 2025, she expressed worry over the growing divisions within the party.

“Some people withdrew from the ‘Thank you Tour’ and from the perspective of many Ghanaians, NPP looks untidy right now, not united. I would (sic) dwell on the clarion call to get people to unite”, she stated.

The former lawmaker also likened the party’s internal wranglings to grief following its defeat in the 2024 elections and urged members to be patient and allow time for healing.

“It’s like grief, you’ve lost something, and you have to allow people to grieve and then after healing you quickly come back together.

“And that is the stage we are, we need to come back together, close ranks and diminish the blame game,” she noted.

The former lawmaker recalled moments in the NPP’s history when the party faced adversity and prolonged years in opposition.

“NPP is not like in tatters, it’s a party at a crossroads, but we will bounce back. You can mark that; we will bounce back.

“We’ve been through this before, we were in the wilderness for 30 something years,” she added.

She continued, “We have to have that kind of faith and fervour that NDC is in power. They have good will now but remember, it’s a cycle. No party stays in power forever. So, we have to keep this in mind. We have to be very calm, very united, get back to the drawing board, and do the competition because competition is part and parcel of democracy”.
