Four new cases of the Monkeypox virus have been confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to nine.

This was disclosed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which indicated that the four confirmed cases were recorded as of May 21, 2025.

The Ghana Health Service noted that it is still monitoring the situation to update the public on any new cases that may be detected.

The service, however, indicated that no deaths have been recorded, per the updates shared on May 23, 2025, via the GHS official Facebook page.

Health authorities have consequently assured the public that there is no cause for alarm.

The Ghana Health Service on May 15, 2025, confirmed the first two cases of Monkeypox in Ghana, in the Accra Metropolitan area of the Greater Accra Region.

As of May 18, 2025, two additional cases were confirmed following its detection in the Western and Greater Accra Regions, respectively.

Mpox is a viral disease transmitted through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

The Health Service has advised the public to remain vigilant and observe the following precautions:

Practice regular hand hygiene, avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms, particularly those with rashes, and report suspected cases to the nearest health facility without delay.
