Members of Parliament’s gender committee with staff and residents of the Echoing Hills Village
Members of the Gender Committee of Parliament led by their Ranking Member and Member of Parliament for Nsuta Kwaman Beposo, Ntim Adelaide, has committed individual donations to the Echoing Hills Village in the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly.
During a visit by the committee on Friday, May 23 2025, the Ranking Member donated a sum of GH¢5,000 towards the surgery of one of the indwellers.
The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Owusua Amma Rachel also pledged to construct a borehole for the village upon hearing of their challenges with accessing water and paying their bills.
Other members of the committee also pledged various donations towards the operation of the home.
Echoing Hills Village, located in Madina, Accra, is a non-profit care facility and orphanage founded by American missionaries including Rev. Cordell Brown with a mission to support vulnerable children and individuals with disabilities.
Established around the 1990s, it provides a home for orphans, abandoned children, victims of abuse and those with special needs such as down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and mental health conditions.
Addressing the delegation from Parliament, the administrator of Echoing Hills Village, Reverend William Okyere, revealed that the home currently cares for about 50 persons including some 53 residents.
He disclosed that the facility relies heavily on donations of food, sanitary products and funds from individuals, organisations and groups.
He stated that the village is faced with various challenges, ranging from inadequate operational funding and appealed to the committee to advocate for support for the village.
The visit by the committee forms part of its ongoing tour of orphanages and care homes to acquaint themselves with the operations and challenges of such facilities.
