The suspect, Joshua Arthur allegedly hit the lecturer with a heavy metal, rendering him unconscious
John Quaye, a resident of Gyahadze, a community in Winneba in the Central Region, where the gruesome murder of the Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Prof Mawuadem Koku Amedeker, occurred, has shared details of the unfortunate incident.
In an interview with Accra-based Adom FM on May 23, 2025, Quaye revealed that rumours had circulated about the lecturer’s disappearance, with some speculating that he had been kidnapped.
According to Quaye, this wasn’t surprising, given that the lecturer had been receiving threats from unknown individuals in the community.
However, Quaye stressed in the video that the lecturer is known to be very cautious and circumspect in all his dealings, making the circumstances of his death shocking.
He also noted that the suspect has been identified as an actor popularly known as Fii.
“We heard rumours that he had been kidnapped, which isn’t surprising given that he has been receiving death threats from unknown persons. Recently, we learned that a certain actor allegedly planned to harm him.
“However, Prof is known for being cautious and self-sufficient, making it puzzling how the suspect managed to gain access to his room. Based on the evidence, it appears the suspect used a hard and blunt object to render Prof unconscious before later slashing his throat,” he narrated.
According to John Quaye, the suspect, identified by the police as Joshua Karry Authur, allegedly hit the lecturer with a heavy metal object, slashed his throat and removed his intestines.
He reportedly hid the removed intestines in a location that was difficult to access for unknown reasons.
Quaye also revealed that the police faced significant challenges to gain access to the deceased’s room.
“The suspect allegedly dug a hole and buried him after slashing his throat and removing his intestines, which were hidden elsewhere for unknown reasons. When the police were informed and arrived at the scene to investigate, they reportedly had difficulty navigating the gate, so they broke portions of the entrance, damaging part of the gate in the process to enter the compound,” he added.
