Bibiani (WN/R), May 23, GNA – The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly has begun desilting storm drains in some parts of the municipality to prevent incidents of floods during the peak of the rains.
Mr Sebastian Obeng, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), explained to the Ghana News Agency during the exercise that part of the municipality, particularly Bibiani, sometimes experienced issues of flooding anytime it rained heavily.
He expressed worry that flooding had become an annual ritual in some areas, partly due to the poor drainage system which submerge houses and caused extensive damage to properties.
The MCE stated: “We are making all efforts as an Assembly to ensure our Municipality is ready to receive any impending rain and to also not cause too much havoc.”
Mr Obeng advised the people to refrain from dumping refuse into gutters in and around their residence to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall.
