Two persons have been arrested at Walewale in the North East Region, for allegedly stealing a pistol and ammunition belonging to an Immigration Officer.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service’s Regional Headquarters in Nalerigu on Wednesday May 21, 2025, the suspects reportedly entered the room of the officer at around 12:00pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while he was away.

“The police in Walewale in the North East Region has arrested two persons for stealing pistol and ammunition belonging to an Immigration officer.

“The two suspects, Mohammed Basit aged 18 years and Baba Rasid, aged 22, entered the room of the Immigration officer at about 12:00pm on Saturday, 17/5/2025, while he was away and stole the officer’s Smith and Wessonssen Pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition as well as his two CZ rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each”, it noted.

According to the police, the items have been successfully retrieved, and investigations are ongoing.

“Through intelligence, the suspects were arrested at Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale, where the suspects had gone to hide the pistol and ammunition in a stationary vehicle. Investigations are ongoing and suspects will be put before court, it added.
