Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed his top three most skilful players of all time, highlighting global icons Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Jay-Jay Okocha as the finest he’s witnessed in the art of flair and creativity on the pitch.

Speaking in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, the current Ghana U-16 coach, and ex-Black Stars star explained his admiration for the trio, recalling unforgettable moments from watching them play.

“For me, it’s Messi, Ronaldinho, and Okocha,” Lamptey said.

The 1991 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball winner spoke particularly about his admiration for Ronaldinho’s unmatched flair, Messi’s intelligence and control, and Okocha’s street-style brilliance.

Odartey, who had a rollercoaster playing career that took him from Anderlecht and PSV to Aston Villa and Boca Juniors, now spends his time grooming young talents and running his Glow-Lamp International School in Accra.

His coaching philosophy emphasizes not just discipline, but also creativity, something he believes has been lost in today’s overly structured football.

Known for his early promise and dazzling footwork as a teenager, Lamptey’s career was filled with both brilliance and misfortune.

His reflections on skilful players are not just nostalgic tributes, but lessons he now passes on to the next generation of Ghanaian talent.

Lamptey is currently leading Ghana’s U-16 team while continuing his work in youth development through his football academy in Elmina.
