“I received threats for saying Lagos is smelling” – Comedian Acapella cries out

Popular Nigerian comedian, Acapella, says he has received threats for backing claims that Lagos smells.

The drama started after influencer Scott Iguma posted a viral video describing Lagos as “smelling” and full of “big mosquitoes.” The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, didn’t find it funny. He fired back, accusing people of using social media to spread “harmful narratives” against the state. He suggested that non-indigenes should promote the state instead of criticizing it and “insulting your host.”

Acapella then called out the commissioner for what he described as double standards based on ethnicity and origin. That didn’t go down well with some netizens — and the threats started rolling in. Read here

Taking to X on Tuesday, the comedian wrote: “I’ve received several DMs and few calls making empty threats… No Nigerian is more Nigerian than any other Nigerian.”

He added that pointing out Nigeria’s problems doesn’t mean you’re against the country — in fact, it’s the first step to fixing things.
