Galamseyers at Wassa Gyapa
Wassa Gyapa, a community near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region known for harbouring lots of illegal miners or ‘galamsey operators’, has been raided in a major anti-galamsey operation.
The operation, which was conducted by the Western Central Regional Police Command, led to the arrest of 13 illegal miners.
They were arrested on May 19, 2025, as part of sustained anti-galamsey operations in the area.
The names of the suspects were given as Nana Ampadu, Stephen Tetteh, Yaw Dalame, Samuel Amoah, Kwame Oppong and Francis Oduom.
The rest were Owusu Asare, Atta Kwame, Apiyanga Emmanuel, Kojo Montanakito, Maxwell Owusu, Obofo Vincent, and Soogal Fataw.
Police destroyed over 120 chanfang machines and confiscated six motorbikes for evidential purposes.
The suspects will soon be arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court after further investigations.
