GMet has warned of thunderstorms and rain across multiple regions on May 20 and 21
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather forecast warning of thunderstorms and rainfall across multiple regions of the country, particularly from the late afternoon of Monday, May 20, 2025, through to Tuesday, May 21, 2025.
In a statement dated May 20 and signed by Duty Forecaster Esther Ama Egbuka, GMet stated, “This afternoon, mostly cloudy weather with periodic sunny spells will prevail across southern Ghana, while northern Ghana is expected to remain generally sunny. However, from late afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms or rain of varying intensities are anticipated over parts of the coastal, middle, transition, and northern sectors.”
According to the Agency, Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Ho, and several other urban centers are expected to experience thunderstorms with rain (TSRA) during the afternoon and evening, with a 30% to 40% probability of occurrence.
“Cities including Accra, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, and Ho are expected to experience thunderstorms with rain (TSRA) in the afternoon with probabilities between 30% and 40%, followed by a mostly cloudy evening and misty or cloudy conditions in the early morning of May 21. Afternoon temperatures will range from 30°C to 33°C, dropping to around 24°C to 27°C in the evening, and 22°C to 25°C in the morning,” it added.
