According to reports by CitiNews, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President, has openly addressed the failings of the NPP government, extending an apology to the people of Ghana and asking for their renewed confidence ahead of the next general elections.
During a recent event in London, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that while the NPP had made considerable progress in governance, it had also encountered setbacks and made errors.
He expressed regret over the administration’s missteps and, speaking for himself and the party, conveyed a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians for the areas where they fell short.
He said: “The NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about that, but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf, on behalf of the party and the government, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the things right that we should have gotten.”
Dr. Bawumia further emphasized that the party has reflected on its past actions and is determined to improve if granted another term in office.
He conveyed hope that the lessons learned from their experiences would guide them towards more effective governance in the future.
His comments come in the wake of the NPP’s poor showing in the 2024 elections.
