The General Overseer of the Great Fire Pentecostal Church, Bishop Bonegas, has made a controversial statement regarding the importance of appreciating and supporting spiritual leaders.

In an interview with Zionfelix posted on Instagram on May 19, 2025, Bishop Bonegas argued that there is nothing wrong with church members paying their pastors, stating that the money derived from church members is what is used to keep the church in operation.

“I don’t see any problem with paying pastors for their services. The money we take from church members is the same money we use to keep the church in operation. The lights and chairs we have here are no different from what is used in the hotels and other facilities.

“You shouldn’t make a pastor take or ask for money if you are going before him. If you can go to a funeral and spray money, then don’t find a problem with giving me money. Don’t forget I am the one who can take your problems away. If you have a problem with giving me money, then take your problems away,” he said.

Bishop Bonegas further stated that believers should willingly support their spiritual leaders if asked.

“If you get an opportunity to come before me, and I ask you to give me money for my service. There is no way you should refuse it. What I don’t like is a pastor tricking people with their anointing,” he added.
