Business strategist and financial analyst Dr Daniel Amarteye Anim has urged the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to intensify efforts to strengthen the country’s foreign reserves, warning that rising economic pressures in the fourth quarter could undermine the value of the cedi.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Business on Ghana’s economic outlook, Dr Anim stressed the importance of fiscal and monetary measures to cushion the economy against expected future shocks.

“Beef up the reserves at the Bank of Ghana, and by the fourth quarter, it will also be a peak season for our traders and business people to bring more goods into the economy,” he stated.

He further added, “By the fourth quarter, BoG reserves will definitely be affected, and that may further impact the value of the cedi.”

Dr Anim urged the central bank to act swiftly to bolster macroeconomic stability and protect the local currency from renewed depreciation pressures.

His comments highlight concerns over the sustainability of the cedi’s recent gains, particularly as Ghana prepares to resume external debt servicing and navigate global economic uncertainties.
