Fast rising, Ghanaian music duo, Lali X Lola, have petitioned the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, over unpaid royalties from digital music platform Boomplay.

According to them, they have not received any revenue from their music streams on the platform since April 2023.

In a petition dated May 19, 2025, the artistes expressed concern over the lack of transparency and accountability by Boomplay, stating that they have made several attempts to get answers but have been met with silence.

“Our distributors have told us that we haven’t received any payments or detailed reports from Boomplay for over a year. This is despite the fact that our music is still actively being streamed on the platform,” part of the statement read.

The musicians said the situation is frustrating and unfair, especially considering the time, money, and energy that go into creating music.

They explained that although platforms like Boomplay help artistes reach new fans and grow their brand, they must also be responsible and ensure musicians are paid what they are due.

Lali X Lola called on the minister to investigate Boomplay’s system of paying artistes and to introduce proper regulations for all digital service providers (DSPs) operating in Ghana.

“We respectfully urge your office to investigate this issue and help establish better regulatory oversight over DSPs operating within Ghana’s digital and creative economy,” they added.
