Ghanaian Father Strangles Son To Death For Refusing To Go To Church In His Wife’s Presence

According to the report by Metro TV Ghana today, a tragic incident has shocked the town of Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, where a father, Kwame Asare, allegedly strangled his 13-year-old son, Kofi Asare, to death after the boy refused to attend church.

The heartbreaking incident took place last Sunday morning in the family’s home.

Kwame, a 38-year-old construction worker, was reportedly furious when his son Kofi refused to go to church with him and his wife, Abena Asare.

According to neighbors and family sources, Kofi had previously expressed a desire to stay home on Saturdays, which caused tension between him and his father, who was a strong believer in attending church regularly.

“I kept telling my son that we must attend church as a family, but he would always make excuses,” said Kwame, who appeared remorseful when speaking to police after his arrest.

“I never thought it would end this way. I just wanted him to understand the importance of going to church.”

On that fateful Sunday, Kwame became enraged when Kofi refused again.

Witnesses say the father and son argued intensely, and in a fit of anger, Kwame grabbed Kofi by the neck and strangled him.

Abena, the mother, was present in the room and watched in horror as her son struggled for his life.

Despite her desperate attempts to intervene, she was too frightened to stop her husband.

“I tried to pull him away, but Kwame was too strong. He just wouldn’t let go,” Abena said tearfully when speaking to the police.

“I kept begging him to stop, but it was too late.”

The tragic event ended with Kofi collapsing unconscious.

Neighbors quickly called the authorities, but by the time they arrived, the young boy had already died.

Kwame was arrested and charged with murder, while Abena has been left devastated, unable to comprehend the loss of her son and the violent act committed by her husband.

“I can’t believe this is happening. Kofi was my only child, and now he’s gone,” Abena cried, speaking to reporters outside her home.

The incident has sparked outrage and disbelief within the Takoradi community. Many are questioning how such an act of violence could happen within a family.

Local leaders and religious leaders have called for more support for families facing tensions over religious beliefs, urging parents to find peaceful ways to resolve conflicts with their children.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this before,” said a local resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

“It’s a sad day for Takoradi, and for Ghana as a whole.”

The case is currently under investigation, and Kwame Asare remains in police custody, awaiting trial.
