President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is expected to return to Ghana before the end of next week after recovering from a health-related absence.
According to MyNewsGH, Speaking during a Thank You Tour stop in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, Mr. Mahama conveyed positive updates about his running mate’s condition.
“I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she’ll be back in the country before the end of next week,” he said, stating that she had made a full recovery.
The announcement brought relief to supporters, many of whom had expressed concern following reports that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang fell ill in late March.
She was initially treated at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on March 28, 2025. Upon medical advice, she traveled abroad for further treatment to ensure a thorough recovery.
She officially commenced a three-week medical leave starting April 7, 2025.
Mr. Mahama, while addressing the crowd, expressed gratitude for the nation’s support and prayers during her period of recovery.
He reiterated that the vice-presidential candidate remains in high spirits and is eager to resume her political engagements.
The NDC leadership and grassroots supporters have since welcomed the news of her return with optimism, as her presence is expected to strengthen the party’s campaign activities ahead of the upcoming elections.
