Sege, May 15, GNA – Assembly Members of the Ada West District Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Mr Jerry John Foreigner Amornortey Tanihu Mills-Nkrumah as the District Chief Executive.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah received 16 yes votes, representing 69.9 per cent, and six no votes.
Madam Linda Akweley Obenewaa Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, sworn him into office to begin his official duty as DCE after the peaceful election which was observed by chiefs, security personnel, residents, assembly members and well-wishers of the nominee.
Ahead of the election, the regional minister urged the assembly members to confirm the nominee to fast-track development of the area as appointments and recruitments are ongoing.
Mr Lawrence Katey Nunekpeku, Presiding Member of the Assembly, also made a passionate appeal to the assembly members, indicating the need to unite to champion a common cause.
According to him, the presence of Mr Daniel Keshi Bessey, Member of Parliament for the area, and his contender Mr Dodzie Numekervor, former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), at the programme spoke volumes of how politics could not divide them as a people.
Mr Bessey urged the Assembly members to confirm the nominee in a united manner to project a good image of the district.
The DCE, in his acceptance speech, thanked the president for nominating him, pledging to operate on the vision of the president to reset Ada West District.
He disclosed that he is not new to the district, as he was familiar with most of the problems faced by the people, including water, deplorable road networks, accommodation for teachers, shortage of furniture in schools, shortage of teachers, abandoned Community Day School, poor revenue generation for the district, lack of permanent structure for the fire and immigration services and lack of operative cars and equipment for the security services in the district.

“I also take cognisance of the Agenda 111 Project started under the NPP government but stalled at the moment,” he emphasised.
He assured the public of working hand in hand with the MP, assembly members and other stakeholders to improve the living standard of the marginalised.
He expressed satisfaction over the percentage of votes he attained, saying, “It’s only today that I have seen that I am a good man,” adding that the no votes were a sign that he was not a criminal.
