Real Madrid players, Vinicius Junior (L) and Kylian Mbappe (R)
Spanish giants Real Madrid are mulling over the potential sale of one of their star players, Vinicius Junior, after making huge financial demands in negotiations for a contract renewal.
It is reported that the Brazilian wants to feel valued regarding his brilliant performances in aiding the team to win UEFA Champions League titles as well as La Liga.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, with his contract ending in 2027, he is said to demand a significant increment in his salary, which would be double what French attacker Kylian Mbappe earns.
As per the Spanish outlet, there remains a difference between the salary increase requested by the player, which would take his deal from less than £14.3m (€17m) per annum to a staggering £25.5m (€30m).
Vinicius’ current deal, which he signed in 2022, is similar to high earner Mbappe’s, who joined the club in the 2024/2025 season.
However, in a bid to get the deal over the line, representatives of Vinicius at Roc Nation Brazil are purportedly in active discussions with Saudi Pro League sides, which are thought to be advanced, although nothing has been signed yet.
Despite the contract renewal standoff, Vinicius has made it clear that he wants to stay at Madrid for a long time and make history.
“I have a contract until 2027, but I have always said that I want to play here for a long time, to be able to make history and to receive the affection of the fans along with the president, all the players, and the coaching staff.
“God willing, hopefully in the next few days, all the negotiations can be resolved, and I can stay here for much longer,” he said, as reported by Mail Sport.
