The Ghana Gold Board and the National Security have intercepted a gold smuggling operation, leading to the arrest of some individuals of foreign nationality involved in the illegal activity.
According to videos shared on Facebook by Channel One and sighted by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the arrested suspects were allegedly found in possession of gold bars, a substantial amount of cash, and ammunition.
Additional media reports indicate that currency counting machines were also among the items seized by the authorities.
The videos show the intercepted items wrapped in blue polythene bags, along with leather bags containing various other materials, all of which have been tagged for easy identification.
The report further noted that an official press briefing is expected to be held soon to provide comprehensive details on the operation, including information about the apprehended suspects and the items seized.
Additional information from citinewsroom.com stated that according to the police, the suspects were arrested in Anyinam, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The operation reinforces the government’s commitment to cracking down on illegal activities in the gold mining sector, adding to several recent raids that have resulted in the arrest of suspects and the confiscation of gold materials.
