Leave Sammy Gyamfi Alone; We Know NPP Big Men Who Spray $50k On Women – NPP’s Owusu Bempah Charges

The Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah, has passionately come to the defence of Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), following a storm of criticism over his recent $10,000 cash donation to popular televangelist, Evangelist Agradaa.

The donation, which was made publicly during one of Agradaa’s events, sparked heated debates on social media, with critics questioning how a public servant like Gyamfi could afford such generosity. But Owusu Bempah believes the backlash is politically motivated and deeply hypocritical.

In an interview on NET2 TV, sighted by Ghbase News, Owusu Bempah did not hold back: “Leave Sammy Gyamfi alone. We know NPP big men who spray $50,000 on women. He who comes with equity must come with clean hands,” he charged, suggesting that members of his own party had done far worse without facing scrutiny.

According to him, unless there is evidence that the money donated by Gyamfi was stolen or sourced from government funds, there should be no cause for alarm. “How much is $10,000 that Sammy Gyamfi can’t afford?” he asked rhetorically. “The noise about Sammy Gyamfi’s gift is dead on arrival.”

For Owusu Bempah, the matter should only be of national concern if it is linked to embezzlement or corruption. He called on critics to submit any proof of wrongdoing to the Special Prosecutor instead of fanning political division. “Unless funds are proven to have gone missing from the Gold Board’s coffers, there’s absolutely nothing wrong,” he added.

The controversy has drawn mixed reactions, with some Ghanaians expressing genuine concern about the appearance of wealth by public figures, while others view the scrutiny as an unfair political witch-hunt.

As the nation continues to grapple with economic challenges, public sensitivity to how political figures handle money is at an all-time high. But Owusu Bempah’s intervention may have shifted the narrative — not necessarily by exonerating Gyamfi, but by reminding Ghanaians that corruption isn’t a partisan issue, and double standards have no place in public discourse.
