The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzie Tamakloe, has strongly endorsed the newly-launched Code of Conduct by President John Dramani Mahama, describing it as his ‘Bible’ for public service.

According to him, the document serves as a personal guide to ensure he meets the high expectations of integrity demanded of government appointees.

Speaking on TV3’s Big Issues on May 12, 2025, Tamekloe stated that he immediately downloaded the Code of Conduct onto his phone upon its release to enable regular reference.

“I have taken the code of conduct as a Bible. Immediately it came out, I had a copy on my phone so that I can easily be going through it as a guide,” he stated.

His comments came in the wake of the controversy surrounding the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, who was seen in a viral video giving US dollars to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa.

The footage, which surfaced online, sparked backlash from sections of the public and raised concerns about propriety among appointees of the Mahama-led administration.

Tamekloe clarified that the incident occurred during the one-week observation of Prophet Nigel Gaisie’s late father, where Gyamfi encountered Agradaa.

According to 3news.com, he explained that the interaction was part of a peace message relating to ongoing tensions between Agradaa and another preacher, Reverend Owusu Bempah, and not a breach of the newly launched code.

President Mahama launched the Code of Conduct as part of his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians, pledging a new era of responsible and accountable governance.

At the launch, he warned that any appointee found violating the provisions of the code would face sanctions, signaling his intent to uphold the highest ethical standards in public office.

While Tamekloe admitted that Sammy Gyamfi may not have technically breached the code, he emphasised that the public scrutiny is a result of the elevated expectations placed on President Mahama’s appointees.

He urged fellow appointees to live above reproach.

“We live in a political environment that has placed a higher standard, particularly on appointees of President Mahama. And I can appreciate the reason for this higher standard,” he stated.
