Abdulai Mahmud has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bole District Assembly in the Savannah Region, following a successful vote that saw him secure a commanding 87 percent of the total valid votes cast.

The confirmation exercise took place under tight security on May 12, 2025, with personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service deployed to the area a day before the event.

The move was seen as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and order, especially following recent opposition to Mahmud’s nomination.

According to metrotvonline.com report, Mahmud polled 34 ‘Yes’ votes and 4 ‘No’ votes out of 39 total votes cast by assembly members.

His confirmation vote surpasses that of his predecessor, Veronica Alele Heming, who secured 26 votes out of 38 when she was confirmed in 2017, the report said.

Despite some resistance from youth groups in the district, who organised a press conference and a protest the previous Friday to express dissatisfaction with Mahmud’s nomination, the confirmation process was conducted without incident.

Security presence remained visible throughout the event to ensure calm, the report added.

In his acceptance speech, Abdulai Mahmud expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating him for the role.

He pledged to work diligently to accelerate development in the Bole Municipality, emphasising infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment as his top priorities.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me, and I assure the people of Bole that I will work tirelessly to bring positive change and development to our communities,” the report said.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Bia Wurbe, who was present at the event, congratulated Mahmud on his confirmation and urged all assembly members to collaborate effectively with the new MCE.

He emphasised that unity and teamwork were essential for achieving development goals in the district.
