Lightning Kills Police Officer during Heavy Downpour

Godfred Dapaah, a 25-year-old police constable nicknamed Toner, was hit and killed by lightning while on the phone with his girlfriend in Cape Coast, in the Central Region of Ghana.

According to reports, the painful incident took place during a heavy downpour on Saturday, 10th May, 2025.

Some eyewitnesses said Constable Dapaah was having a protracted phone discussion when lightning hit, killing him instantaneously.

His premature demise has generated sadness on social media, with friends and colleagues lamenting the loss of a committed young police officer.

Some people wondered what caused the lightning to hit the police officer.

Some have even connected his death to spiritual problems, while others feel that lightning is a natural phenomenon that may hit a human being at any time and kill him or her.

Some experts went on to advise people that no matter how crucial a phone call seemed, it is critical to avoid using mobile phones during strong rainstorms, particularly outside.

They said instead of doing anything dangerous, we should prioritize our safety.
