Bawumia arrives at Mampong to pay respect at One-Week ceremony

Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has arrived at Mampong in the Ashanti Region, to pay his respect at the One-Week Observance of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

In a footage shared by Adom FM on X, on May 12, 2025, Dr Bawumia clad in black fugu is seen approaching the event grounds with his entourage in a show of statesmanship and solidarity.

In an emotional moment, Janet Dorothy Owusu Sechere, wife of the late Daasebre Dr Osei Bonsu II, Asante-Mamponghene, was seen shedding tears at the event as mourners consoled her with warm words.

Series of footages shared by Adom TV on X also showed traditional leaders from notable Ashanti towns arriving at the event grounds to observe and mourn with the Mampong township.

Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who was the Second in Command to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, passed away on April 20, 2025.

He died at age 86, after a short illness, with his death formally announced to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on April 28, 2025, in line with Asante custom.

The Asantehene has directed that Daasebre Osei Bonsu II’s burial be organised within three weeks, with the one-week observation set for May 12, 2025.
