A horrific accident involving three motorcycles
has left at least three individuals with serious injuries on the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway. The incident occurred near Koburi in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
According to an eyewitness account shared with SMART MEDIA UPPER EAST, the accident happened when three motorcycles, carrying six persons — one girl and five boys — collided while returning from Zebila to Sapeliga.
The eyewitness narrated that one of the motorbikes collided head-on with a vehicle that was traveling from the Bawku area towards Bolgatanga. The impact caused the two other motorcycles, which were closely following behind, to crash as well.
“The first motorbike collided directly with the oncoming car, and the other two couldn’t brake in time, leading to a chain crash from the back,” the eyewitness said.
The violent crash resulted in multiple injuries. Three of the victims reportedly sustained serious wounds, including broken legs and arms. They were immediately rushed to the Zebila District Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The condition of the remaining victims is currently unknown, but sources indicate that medical staff at the hospital are working diligently to provide care to all involved.
This unfortunate incident adds to the growing number of accidents on the Bolgatanga-Bawku stretch — a route known for its high motorbike usage and increasing vehicular traffic.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, and investigations are expected to commence to determine the cause and possible negligence.
