Suzy Adwoa Pinamang, the second-year student of Adventist Senior High School at Bantama, who was accidentally shot in the eye by a classmate, has arrived in the United Kingdom to undergo emergency medical treatment.
Suzy touched down in the UK on Saturday, May 10, 2025, accompanied by one caregiver. She is also joined by Rafik Mahama, the Special Aide to Ibrahim Mahama, who is sponsoring the entire cost of her travel and medical treatment.
This follows a recommendation from doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, and Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra, who confirmed that she had sustained severe injuries to her eyes and required urgent specialist care abroad.
Her journey and treatment have been made possible through swift interventions by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who confirmed the successful visa acquisition and travel arrangements via an official statement on his Facebook page on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Ablakwa expressed profound gratitude to business mogul, Ibrahim Mahama, for his support and to the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, for her swift and compassionate response to his appeal, which enabled Suzy and her caregivers to obtain emergency travel clearance.
“It is also in order to convey heartfelt gratitude to Ibrahim Mahama, who has generously decided to cover the entire cost of Madam Pinamang’s medical treatment in the UK.
“This is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. I wish Suzy Adwoa Pinamang the very best, don’t give up the fight, brave young lady, you are a winner!” he wrote on Facebook.
He also acknowledged the instrumental role played by the MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, who brought Suzy’s case to his attention and requested urgent diplomatic intervention.
Additionally, the Ghana High Commission in the UK has been directed to provide Suzy with special consular assistance and privileges during her stay, to ease her transition and ensure she receives the highest standard of support.
Suzy’s ordeal has sparked public outrage and raised serious concerns about student safety, firearm access among minors, and the mental health impact on victims of school-related violence.
