Over 300 residents of the Frafraha community in the Adenta Municipality of the Greater Accra Region received free medical treatment yesterday from the Iran Clinic.

This health outreach initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Red Cross Society to commemorate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 under the theme “On the Side of Humanity.”

The medical services provided included blood pressure checks, screenings for typhoid and malaria, eye tests, and other essential health assessments. Residents were also supplied with medications to enhance their treatment.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Dr. Shahab Abdolahifar, Medical Director at Iran Clinic, emphasised that the World Red Cross and Crescent Society is dedicated to upholding its seven fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

“These principles encapsulate the movement’s ethics and are central to our mission of assisting those in need during armed conflicts, natural disasters, and other emergencies,” he stated.

Dr. Abdolahifar noted that the free medical care provided to Frafraha residents aligns with these principles, assuring that those with severe illnesses would receive complimentary healthcare at the Iran Clinic.

He also encouraged beneficiaries to engage in regular exercise and maintain a balanced diet to promote their health.

Chief of Frafraha, Nii Kinney Akpor I, commended the Ghana Red Cross Society and its development partners for their health initiatives in the community. He called on other corporate bodies to follow suit.

Nii Kinney Akpor I expressed concern over the inadequate response to health issues in the area due to a shortage of healthcare providers, lack of sensitisation, and the distance to health facilities. “The health facility situated at the court area in our community conducts health outreach only once a year, which is woefully inadequate considering our population,” he lamented. He appealed to the government and other organisations to enhance the community’s health facility to better serve its residents.

Kwame Gyimah-Akwafo, President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, praised Iran Clinic for its contributions to healthcare delivery in the country and urged residents to prioritise their health and well-being.

World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day is celebrated annually on May 8 to honour the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This date marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, born on May 8, 1828, in Geneva, Switzerland, who founded the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and was awarded the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.
