Ghana’s Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti has been named one of the top 10 finalists for the fourth edition of the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, selected from over 100,000 applications across 199 countries.

This year’s finalists were chosen through a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process conducted by an expert jury and Grand Jury panel, and independently moderated by Ernst & Young LLP.

The award recognises exceptional contributions to global healthcare by nurses.

Naomi, a trailblasing oncology nurse leader, is widely acclaimed for her transformative work in cancer care, research, and education across Africa. She was instrumental in launching Ghana’s formal oncology nurse training program, which has so far produced over 60 oncology specialists and 10 breast care nurses.

As a member of the Education and Training Committee for the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and a co-investigator on the Global Bridges Oncology Grant, Naomi has influenced nursing standards and policies across the continent. Her mentorship has shaped the careers of more than 48 nurses from various African countries.

Her groundbreaking work in nurse-led education and research is helping to position nursing as a central pillar in Africa’s cancer response efforts.
