The self-glory in the NPP is too much — Bernard Boasiako

According to GhanaWeb, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed concern over what he sees as an increasing focus on individual recognition within the party.

During a televised discussion on Wontumi TV on Monday, May 5, 2025, he emphasized the need for members to recommit to the principles of unity and collective effort that have historically guided the NPP.

He noted that the current wave of self-promotion, where individuals highlight their personal contributions to the party, is undermining the spirit of teamwork that has been central to the party’s success.

“Now the self-glory in the NPP is too much. Everyone wants their supporters to blow their trumpet about what they’ve done or are doing for the party,” he stated.

“I did this for the party, I did that for the party. This must stop.”

He criticized this shift, pointing out that many now seek applause and praise for their roles, instead of working quietly and collaboratively for the greater good of the party.

To illustrate his point, Wontumi referenced examples from early Christianity, highlighting how key figures such as Paul, Silas, and Apollos were unified by a common cause.

He drew a parallel with the NPP, arguing that the party’s strength lies in its ability to bring together a variety of influential figures—including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Kwame Baffoe Abronye—under one shared vision.

He stressed that the party’s progress is not the result of any single individual’s efforts, but rather a combination of contributions made by many working together.

Wontumi emphasized that every member has a role to play and that all should be regarded as equals in the push to advance the party’s mission.
