Former Ghanaian boxer and entertainer Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has publicly criticised Nii Tetteh Mowarmo, a chief in Bukom, for what he describes as a heavy-handed crackdown on smoking youth in the community.

The outspoken personality waded into the controversy after a recent swoop led by the chief saw local security operatives storm Bukom to arrest suspected smokers, an approach Banku claims bypasses tradition and disrespects community protocols.

In a video shared on X, Banku, while acknowledging the growing menace of drug use and smoking among Bukom’s youth, questioned the methods being used to address the issue.

“This is not the way to solve problems with the youth. You don’t just bring soldiers or police to arrest people without speaking to the elders. The chiefs know nothing about this approach,” he said in Ga.

Banku further called on the Sempe Mantse, Nii Adote Otintor II, to intervene and mediate a more constructive path forward, one that prioritises rehabilitation, education, and community dialogue over force.

“I’m calling on the big chiefs, especially the Sempe Mantse, to step in and stop Nii Tetteh Mowarmo from using force on the youth. We need leadership and dialogue, not fear and arrests,” he added.
