NPP-led coalition petitions presidency over CJ’s suspension

The New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led coalition of political parties has officially petitioned the presidency, urging President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin presented the petition on the group’s behalf to the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations Stan Dogbe at the Jubliee House.

Addressing the crowd after presenting the petition, Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to upholding judicial independence in the country.

He also cautioned judges against being swayed by promises of promotions.

“We stand with you and we will not falter until judicial independence is restored and protected. And to those judges who are being promised promotions, just to cow you, remember, just today it is Torkornoo, tomorrow it will be you,” he said.
