Veteran journalist Kwasi Pratt has ignited debate by alleging that Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, misappropriated GHC645 million belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking on a recent program, Pratt asserted that Agyapong not only mishandled a substantial amount of party funds but also misled the party’s top leadership—raising serious concerns about financial accountability within the ruling party.

Pratt claimed that the alleged financial irregularities involved secretive transactions intended to support core party functions. He cautioned that, if proven true, these claims could fracture the party’s internal cohesion and seriously undermine its credibility with the Ghanaian public. Such misconduct, he argued, would likely erode public confidence and negatively impact the NPP’s performance in the upcoming national elections.

A known outspoken voice on political issues, Pratt called for an immediate and impartial investigation. He emphasized that only a transparent probe would help restore confidence in the party’s leadership and demonstrate a genuine commitment to ethical governance. In his view, the NPP’s reputation and electoral future are now at risk.

The allegations come at a delicate time for the NPP, which is already grappling with internal conflicts and factional divisions. With elections approaching, any scandal involving financial impropriety could further damage the party’s public image and shift focus from its policy agenda. Critics argue that such controversies deepen voter skepticism and derail important national conversations.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong’s supporters have strongly denied the accusations, dismissing them as unfounded and politically motivated. They argue that Agyapong has been instrumental in the party’s successes and view the claims as attempts to tarnish his reputation. Nevertheless, calls for greater transparency and accountability within the NPP continue to grow.
