Kissi Agyebeng is the Special Prosecutor
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has released a list of ongoing corruption trials currently being prosecuted in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale, reaffirming its commitment to actively combating corruption and related offenses across the country.
According to the OSP, significant progress has been made in its fight against corruption, noting that several cases have advanced positively through prosecution in court.
In addition to these legal proceedings, the office highlighted other key accomplishments, including the prevention of corruption by freezing and seizing assets of accused individuals, halting contracts deemed dubious or opaque, and recovering embezzled funds from those under investigation.
Among the list of the ongoing trials, some politically-exposed persons and former government appointees have been implicated.
Charles Bissue, a former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Essikado-Ketan, has been charged by the OSP with 15 counts of corruption and abuse of public office.
According to the OSP, Bissue, along with another individual, allegedly facilitated the bypassing of established procedures to enable unqualified companies to acquire mining licenses during his tenure at the IMCIM.
A plea, however, is expected to be taken on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Another politically-exposed individual on the OSP’s list is Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
He has been charged with eight counts of corruption and using public office for profit, stemming from allegations that he manipulated procurement processes during his tenure.
According to the OSP, his prosecution is currently ongoing in Accra.
