President John Dramani Mahama has made a remarkable announcement that is set to generate excitement across the fashion and political scenes in Ghana. Speaking at the official launch of the Black Star Experience held in Accra on May 1, 2025, the President revealed his plans to walk the runway at the upcoming Ghana Fashion Week scheduled for July.
Known for his consistent promotion of local culture and style, President Mahama has often been seen wearing garments crafted by Ghanaian designers. At the launch event, he reaffirmed his dedication to supporting and uplifting the Ghanaian fashion industry. “When we host Ghana Fashion Week in July, I, your president, will proudly take to the catwalk,” he declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Demonstrating his deep appreciation for local craftsmanship, the President announced that he would be showcasing three different outfits during his appearance on the runway. Each outfit will be designed by a different Ghanaian designer, all of whom will be publicly credited during the show. “I always wear Made in Ghana clothes, and all my political suits are tailored by local artisans. This experience is ours—it is authentic and belongs to us,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of recognizing the talent behind the fashion, President Mahama emphasized that he would mention the designer of each outfit during his walk. “On that day, I will change three times. Each time I step on the catwalk, I will tell you which designer created the outfit I am wearing,” he added.
The President’s participation is expected to shine a spotlight on the creative talents within Ghana’s fashion scene and bring unprecedented visibility to local designers during this year’s fashion week.
