The Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) is set to lead a new initiative dubbed “Accra by Night”, aimed at showcasing the vibrant cultural and creative heartbeat of the capital city after dark.

Launched on April 30, 2025, by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the initiative is seen as a bold step in diversifying and expanding Ghana’s tourism offerings.

The GTDC, led by its CEO, Professor Kobby Mensah, is expected to spearhead the planning, coordination, and implementation of Accra by Night, ensuring that the tours reflect the essence of Ghana’s nightlife and cultural richness in a safe, inclusive, and well-organised manner.

The company will also play a key role in promoting local tourism through immersive experiences that highlight Ghana’s cultural heritage, nightlife, and historical landmarks, while also driving economic activity across various sectors of the creative industry.

Speaking with the media during the launch, Professor Kobby Mensah said,

“The ‘Accra by Night’ initiative goes beyond a typical tour. It serves as a platform to highlight our creative economy at night, opening new opportunities for our visitors, artists, entertainers, and service providers.”

“It aligns with His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy, which seeks to drive continuous economic growth and enhance the Black Star experience,” he added.

He also described the initiative as “an exciting addition to Ghana’s growing tourism offerings and a true celebration of our city’s distinct energy, culture, and creativity.”

“Accra is a thriving hub for culture, creativity, innovation, and governance during the day. By night, it transforms into something equally magical, alive with music, food, art, and the authentic spirit of the Ghanaian people,” he added.

The Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC) is mandated to promote and mobilise resources for investment in tourism-related ventures and services. It seeks equity participation in joint tourism development projects with both local and foreign partners.

Additionally, GTDC provides financial and technical support to small businesses within the tourism sector to enhance their efficiency and service quality.

The company also engages in other business activities that support its operations and enhance its assets and interests.
