Apologise to Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong – Arthur Kennedy to NPP leadership

A medical doctor and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has made a strong case for ex-NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko over his indefinite suspension from the party; as well as for ex-NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong; who was initially also suspended.

He demanded that the party must not only reinstate them, but also apologise to them over the unfortunate turn of events in 2015.

He made this appeal during an interview on TV3 on April 1, 2025, while contributing to the ongoing debate on the NPP’s nationwide “Thank You Tour.”

In a subtle jab at the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, he questioned why he remained silent on some of these key issues during his time in office.

He criticised Bawumia for the seeming shift of blame to his predecessor, former President Akufo-Addo and recommended that the party pulls the brakes on the ongoing tour to focus on reconciling all members who have defected for one reason or another.

“Did Dr Bawumia ever speak in cabinet against the cathedral? Did he ever condemn corruption? I mean, did he ever raise his voice against what happened to Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, etc?” Dr Kennedy asked.

He subsequently demanded that Paul Afoko be reintegrated into the party, and both of them (Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong) be offered an apology.

“These two people were constitutionally elected leaders of the party who were suspended under bizarre circumstances. They didn’t do anything wrong. So, I think the party should apologise to them and incorporate them back into the party,” he said.

Dr Kennedy’s call for a rethink of the NPP nationwide “Thank You Tour” fall on the back of the withdrawal of key party leaders like the National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim; and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong; from the tour.
