Businessman and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has stepped in with a major act of generosity following the stabbing of a young supporter during a political event in Kumasi.
He has committed to covering the entire cost of medical treatment for the injured student, as well as funding the remainder of his academic journey and that of all his siblings.
The incident occurred on April 29, 2025, during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Thank You Tour in the Ashanti Region.
The party held its first regional event in Abuakwa, followed by a second gathering in Bantama, which brought together constituencies within the Kumasi Metropolitan area, including Manhyia South, Bantama, and Oforikrom.
The Bantama meeting drew massive crowds of enthusiastic supporters, many of whom turned out to show support for potential flagbearers of the party, including Ken Agyapong.
However, what began as a jubilant political gathering ended on a tragic note when a scuffle broke out, resulting in the stabbing of a young man believed to be a KNUST student and loyal supporter of Agyapong.
He was quickly rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Moved by the incident, Ken Agyapong has not only covered the cost of the student’s medical care but has also pledged to take full responsibility for the educational needs of the victim and his siblings, demonstrating what many are describing as a powerful gesture of compassion and leadership.
His intervention has been widely praised as a demonstration of genuine concern for the youth and grassroots supporters of the party.
Party insiders and sympathisers have hailed the move as reflective of Agyapong’s long-standing reputation for philanthropy and his commitment to the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, while the young victim continues to recover in the hospital.
