Ghana’s local currency, the cedi has appreciated on the interbank market against major trading currencies, particularly the US dollar, at some forex bureaus.
In its daily update, the Bank of Ghana noted that the cedi is trading at a buying price of GH¢14.14 and a selling price of GH¢14.15 to a dollar
The British pound is being bought at GH¢18.86 and sold at GH¢18.88, while the euro trades at a buying price of GH¢16.05 and selling price of GH¢16.07.
Checks by GhanaWeb Business on May 1, 2025, as of 9:00 AM indicate that the cedi is trading at GH¢15.20, while the pound is GH¢20.39 at some forex bureaus across the country.
Also, the euro is trading at GH¢17.20 on the retail market.
To curb the cedi’s depreciation, the Bank of Ghana sold over $200 million in the last quarter of 2024.
