The 2024 Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has indicated that the party is undertaking a period of reflection and is actively learning from the mistakes that led to its significant loss in the 2024 general elections.

According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, it is both essential and critical for the party to draw lessons from its past mistakes as it begins the process of rebuilding, aimed at fostering unity and positioning itself as a credible and appealing alternative ahead of the 2028 elections.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasised the significance of the party’s thank-you tour, highlighting it as a gesture of appreciation to its supporters and voters.

He made this known when he joined the party’s 2024 flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the ‘Thank You’ tour in the Ashanti Region.

“I joined our 2024 NPP Flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and the party’s leadership in the Ashanti Region yesterday for our ongoing National ‘Thank You’ Tour.

“It was especially important to reconnect and feel the pulse of the party. While expressing our gratitude, we are also importantly, reflecting and learning from past mistakes as we chart the way forward,” he said.

NAPO, as he is affectionately known, also expressed his commitment and readiness to help unify the party and ensure it presents a cohesive and united front to the Ghanaian public.

He added that his commitment to fostering party unity is not solely aimed at positioning the NPP as a formidable opposition to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), but also at making the party appealing to voters as a credible and better alternative.

“Unity, clearly, is the resonating theme everywhere we go. I am fully committed to supporting every effort to ensure that the party remains united, not only to provide a formidable opposition to the NDC government, but to present ourselves as the superior alternative to the Ghanaian electorate come 2028,” he added.
