NDC govt tackling inherited corruption, weak leadership

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government inherited a system plagued by corruption and defective leadership.

He emphasized President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to addressing these challenges and restoring integrity in governance.

Speaking during an interview on TV3 on Sunday, April 20, Gbande said, “The foundation we have is deficit of leadership and credibility, criminal activities and corruption. That is what we met and that is what we want to clean up.”

He emphasized that under President Mahama’s leadership, security agencies have intensified efforts to combat crimes such as money laundering, cocaine trafficking, and cybercrime—issues he claimed were previously overlooked

“100 days into office, today you are seeing crimes that you never saw in the last 8 years. You won’t even get the opportunity to hear of those crimes. So you have a combating security force that is fighting crime in this country. From politically incentivised crimes, money laundering, cocaine activities, and cyber-security, all of these are being clamped down on.

“These are things you would not have heard of under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, they were happening, but you won’t hear of them. But today, we are fighting these things,” he said.
