Jubilation as Alan Kyeremanteng Welcomed Back To The NPP Ahead of the 2028 Elections

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged for greater unity within the party as it focuses on the 2028 general elections. In a Facebook post on Friday, April 11, 2025, Nkansah extended a warm welcome to Alan Kyerematen, the former NPP member and leader of the Movement for Change, who recently made a return to the party.

Nkansah emphasized the importance of unity in securing victory in the 2028 elections, stating, “A united NPP will make a 2028 win much easier.” He also expressed his support for Kyerematen’s return, saying, “Chief Alan and all those who left are welcome back to the Elephant family.” He concluded the post with a reference to Kyerematen’s popular moniker, “Once an Osonoba…,” a phrase widely associated with the former minister.

Kyerematen, known for his influential role in the NPP, left the party in 2023 after losing the party’s flagbearership contest to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Subsequently, he formed the Movement for Change and announced his intentions to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Many political observers speculated that Kyerematen’s departure was due to perceived mistreatment by the NPP leadership, as well as his desire to promote a new brand of politics in Ghana—one that would transcend the traditional rivalry between the NPP and NDC.

Despite his 2024 bid as an independent, and the subsequent victory of NDC’s John Mahama, discussions have resurfaced within the NPP about reuniting with former members, including Kyerematen, ahead of the 2028 election. Nkansah’s recent remarks indicate the party’s readiness to heal old wounds and rebuild the unity needed to challenge for power in the upcoming elections.

The post has sparked considerable discussion across social media, with many NPP supporters voicing their agreement on the necessity of party cohesion in the lead-up to 2028. The calls for unity have become even more urgent in light of the party’s post-2024 electoral defeat, signaling a collective push for reconciliation and strengthening of the NPP’s ranks as the next election approaches.
