Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress have invited the party’s Constituency executives in Asante Mampong following violent disturbances over the nomination of a Municipal Chief Executive.
Some aggrieved National Democratic Congress supporters in the constituency stormed the party’s office on Thursday and vandalized properties while setting others ablaze outside the office.
The youth claimed that they have information that one Esther Dwomoh has been nominated for the Municipal Chief Executive position, although an official communication from the Presidency is yet to be released.
The youth say three individuals, the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate, Yakubu Issifu; the current Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Kamil; and Imoro Iddrisu were shortlisted after the vetting, and one of them must be nominated.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Baah Acheamfour, told Citi News the regional executives have initiated processes to look into the concerns of the aggrieved youth.
“As we speak, the regional chairman has invited the party leaders in the constituency for some deliberation. Currently, we are in Accra at a NEC meeting after which we will meet them and see how we can resolve this and other issues in some selected constituencies,” he stated.
He also called for calm among NDC party supporters, insisting that the President should be allowed to make his choices.
“As I said, we respect the decision of the president and the committee who voted for these aspirants, and we should respect that. If, under some circumstances, there are things you don’t understand with some of the decisions taken, you can come and seek clarity,” he added.
