Kwesi Pratt Jr., the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has criticized the political practice of seeking foreign diplomatic intervention in domestic matters, particularly in the ongoing “cocaine plane” controversy.
According to Ghana Web, Speaking on Metro TV on April 9, 2025, Pratt expressed his disappointment over the involvement of diplomatic missions in Ghana’s internal disputes, calling it a disturbing trend that undermines the country’s democratic integrity.
Pratt argued that turning to foreign diplomats to resolve local political issues was a sign of weakness in the nation’s governance. “What’s wrong with the political leaders that we have in this country?” he asked, emphasizing that political leaders should be accountable to the people, not foreign entities.
He further pointed out that Ghana’s citizens had made a clear choice in electing their government, not a reliance on diplomatic interference. “We didn’t vote for diplomatic missions,” he added.
His comments come in the wake of the Minority in Parliament’s petition to the Diplomatic Corps, seeking the intervention of the Lebanese Ambassador in Ghana, Maher Kheir, over the controversial flights alleged to have carried illicit drugs and money.
The Minority had formally requested support from diplomatic channels to aid in the investigation of these suspicious flights that landed at Kotoka International Airport.
