NPP General Secretary slams NIB over attempted arrest of Ntim Fordjour

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has condemned the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for its attempted arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, when NIB officials reportedly surrounded the MP’s residence to detain him. This followed his recent claims about suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport, allegedly linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.

Members of the Minority in Parliament, alongside some NPP executives, intervened during the standoff, arguing that the NIB operatives had no arrest warrant and failed to follow legal procedures.

Speaking to the media, Kodua Frimpong backed the Minority’s position, stressing the importance of due process in such sensitive matters.

“The chaos this morning [Wednesday, April 9] was needless, unwarranted. If they were showing good faith, they should have gone through the due process by writing to the Speaker of Parliament [Alban Bagbin], requesting the MP for invitation for questioning, interview or help in investigations.

“But not this Rambo style. Due process has to be followed. Has he committed any crime? We’re even expecting the government to even commend him,” Justin Frimpong Kodua stated.

The attempted arrest has raised concerns about political intimidation, especially toward opposition members who speak out on national issues. The NIB has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
