Kwesi Pratt Jr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper
The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr, has demanded clarity over the differing accounts given by Rev John Ntim Fordjour, regarding who he seeks to represent in his claim of possible money laundering and cocaine trafficking at the Kotoka International Airport.
Speaking to the developing story on the suspicious aircrafts that landed in the country in March, on Pan African TV on April 6, 2025, Pratt indicated his difficulty in appreciating the conflicting reports about who Ntim Fordjour was speaking for and the inconsistencies in his account.
“I have been listening to Ntim Fordjour and I really pity him, because at his press conference, according to his own claim, he was speaking on behalf of the Minority in Parliament. Then sometime later, the same person is not speaking for the Minority, but he is speaking for a committee of Parliament. So, he doesn’t even know who he is speaking for?
“Is he speaking for the Minority in Parliament or for a committee of Parliament? You cannot interchange the two positions. You’re either speaking for the Minority or for a committee which include all political parties represented in Parliament. He cannot conflict the two. So, he must be clear in his mind, whether he is speaking for the Minority or he’s speaking for a committee,” Kwesi Pratt Jr said.
The veteran journalist expressed worry over the lack of clarity in Ntim Forjour’s report, stating that it raises important questions.
“The lack of clarity in itself, raises a lot of important questions. Now, we know that at least, his position that he speaks for the committee is doubtful, because the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, James Agalga, has said that he does not speak for them,” he added.
Pratt also pointed out differing accounts by the Assin South MP.
He noted that initially, he stated that he had picked intel on possible drug and money laundering that needed to be probed by relevant authorities.
In later reports, he had sought to outrightly state that the country was a transit hub for drug trafficking.
“If you listen closely to his first press conference, it was very confusing. You will hear him say that he has received information on a matter and that he would want to be investigated; that’s on one breath. Then at another point, he actually emphatically makes the claim that Ghana has become a hub for money laundering and drug trafficking. How do you reconcile these two positions?” he quizzed.
It is against this backdrop that Kwesi Pratt Jr questioned the authenticity of the MP’s claims that the two aircrafts that passed through Ghana were carrying drugs and were involved in money laundering.
Pratt’s reaction follows Ntim Fordjour’s call for an urgent briefing on the contents of two aircrafts — AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B — which he alleged were conveying cocaine and cash into the country.
President John Dramani Mahama after the claim has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.
